Emergencies - Best Management Practices

Emergency procedures should be reviewed with employees on a quarterly basis and records of the review with employees kept on file.

Emergency procedures for fire, spills, earthquake, flooding should be reviewed with employees.

Automotive Recyclers should have an emergency spill kit adequate to deal with the quantity of fluids stored on site.  Spill kit includes

  • Safety equipment for employees, including gloves and safety glasses;
  • Absorbent material for soaking up oils, solvents and antifreeze (e.g., rages, towels, pads, sawdust) or material to neutralize battery acid (e.g., lime);
  • Shovels or scoops to clean up spills;

Fire and Provincial Emergency Program phone numbers should be prominently displayed for easy reference during an emergency.
