Membership
Organization
The Automotive Recyclers’ Environmental Association (AREA) was formed in the fall of 1997. AREA is a non-profit association and the Board of Directors is comprised of members from the automotive recycling industry.
The purpose of AREA is to develop and implement an Environmental Certification Program for the automotive recycling industry by:
- Developing and administering the environmental certification process to ensure the environmentally safe removal, transportation, reuse or recycling of hazardous materials;
- Overseeing the communication of information and the on-going training of the industry;
- Working in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Environment Canada, the Insurance Corporation of BC and other partners to develop, implement and administer the environmental management system for automotive recyclers in an effective and efficient manner.
Costs
The membership fee for new members is $750 plus GST.
The Inspection Fee for AREA’s Environmental Certification Program is $625 plus GST. For yards included in the inspection schedule for Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, there is a modest $50 fee to help cover the extra costs for travel. For yards outside Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland the additional fee is $150.
Should a yard require inspections outside the annual schedule, AREA will charge the full travel costs.
